Come and join the fun

A new approach to Tai Chi has begun at the Pyle Adult Center, in Tempe, Arizona.  The new program is designed to make Tai Chi both fun and healthful, things that may have been missing in past exercise programs.

Beginners Class
The overall purpose of this program is to introduce a basic exercise class using Tai Chi Body Balance movements and Qigong breathing exercises.  Tai Chi and Qigong movements from several Tai Chi styles and forms have been integrated into an hour long program designed to help people improve: 1) their body balance, 2) the health of their joints, and 3) deep breathing exercises to help reduce stress.

A short Tai Chi Body Balance form has been created using basic elements from several Yang Style forms to help people "flow" through a beautiful and relaxing Tai Chi exercise program.

Advanced Class
Building from the Beginners Class Form is a longer Tai Chi Body Balance Form for people who want to expand their tai chi experience.  The Advanced Class has been created to be integrated with the short form, and expands the basic elements.

Class Activities
Each class session will be basically the same, with warm up exercises to strengthen and stretch the body.  Also included, will be simple balancing exercises to improve stability.  Then deep breathing exercises will continue to help stretch the muscles and bring fresh oxygen into the body.  At this point, the program will vary from week to week as different exercises will be introduced to help strengthen targeted areas like the shoulders, hips, thighs, etc.

The Beginners Class students will be introduced to the short Tai Chi Body Balance Form and how to effortlessly flow from one movement to the next.

For the Advanced Class a review of the Beginner's Class short form will be reviewed, and then be followed by the longer Tai Chi Body Balance Form.

Qigong
Qigong Deep breathing will be introduced and students will learn how to coordinate their breathing with the Tai Chi movements.  Both of the Tai Chi Body Balance Forms will be repeated several times to lengthen and enhance the overall benefits of this "moving relaxation" experience.

Other Programs
New ideas are also being explored and discussed with Pyle Adult Center management to see how Tai Chi can be expanded to provide health benefits to City of Tempe employees and citizens.

This is an exciting time, so come and join the fun, and learn some Tai Chi along the way.
